“Gaza Starving” campaign connects Palestinian hunger and military exports to Israel
by Desmond Cole
As Israel continues its siege on Palestinians in Gaza, advocates in Canada are urging their government to stop supplying Israel with weapons.
In early February, we spoke with Nadine Nasir and Tarek Loubani of the campaign "Gaza Starving," which spotlights hunger within Gaza and demands and end to military support for Israel. Nadine Nasir is a organizer of the Gaza Starving campaign.
Tarek Loubani is a physician in Ontario who has worked in Gaza for over a decade. Both Nasir and Loubani are of Palestinian descent.

Note of Clarification: In the interview, Loubani makes reference to Dov Weisglass, a former senior advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. Loubani says Weisglass proposed a government policy of putting Palestinians "on a diet", by limiting their intake of calories, presumably with the aim of starving them to death.
In 2006, Weisglass himself said the policy was designed "to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger." In citing Weisglass' remarks, The Guardian goes on to say that "The hunger pangs are supposed to encourage the Palestinians to force Hamas to change its attitude towards Israel or force Hamas out of government."
